My Digital World

The sound of my current favorite song awakes me every morning. No it’s not my radio; it is my alarm clock on my cell phone.  Digital gadgets are an essential in my daily life. Since I do not own a clock, I probably would know what time it is without my cell phone or my laptop.
When I decided to stop putting chemical relaxers in my hair, it was through YouTube, online forums and blogs that I learned the proper ways to care for my natural hair. Everyday I check my subscriptions on YouTube or new blog post son CurlyNikki.com that will help me maintain the health of my hair.
Not only do I use Facebook and Twitter to stay connected with old and new friends, I also use it as a way to learn and get involved.  The group feature on Facebook allows me to stay up to date with information and upcoming events of a particular organization I am involved with.  Following a certain organization on Twitter provides me with quick and up to date information.
I do not consider there to be a digital world. I perceive it as a tool and extension of the physical world that allows us as humans to communicate, learn, and improve the world around us.

Homework #2

The 2011 NABJ Multimedia Short Course brings together talented news professionals from all over the United States to 30 students at Florida A&M University’s campus. The 2011 NABJ Short Course is designed to give students a crash course in the world of multimedia journalism.

The opening presentation welcomed many professional journalists including key speaker Jill Cox-Cordova.  As the senior producer of CNN.com and seasoned journalist Jill Cox-Cordova brings knowledge and wisdom to the program.

Cordova speaks on the importance of being a multimedia journalist in the changing world of journalism. She explains to the students her YES theory that has kept her successful and motivated throughout the years.

Her theory is simple, S for skills, E to Embrace a Support System, and Y for Your brand. Cordova explains that all three are equivalent and they all must be used together in order to be successful.

“I’ve never been fired or laid off and if do, I will still have my YES theory.” says Cordova.
The 2011 NABJ Short Course will continue on through Sunday closing with a dinner and an awards ceremony.
